Broad-winged
Farm is a permaculture
landscape in process. Situated on six acres of prime swampland, our
goals are energy efficiency, food sustainablility, and land
stewardship. BWF is also the umbrella for several community minded
organizations that are intent on bringing nature, traditional foods, and
ancestral skills into people's everyday lives.

Just wanted to add some photos of the projects we did last year. The big ones were adding solar hot water and photovoltaics over the summer, and building the goat barn in the fall. God only knows what we will get into this year!
2/7/12 Recently built a cold smoker and fired it up last weekend. It worked better than expected. Smoked a small ham and bacon for about 5 hours and that was just about perfect. Unfortunately, they came out very salty, so I must have over done the sodium during the cure. I'm soaking the bacon to see if I can pull some of the salt out.
11/10/11 Beds are top dressed with composted cow manure. Grapes are pruned. Garlic is planted. Zone 1 is ready for winter. Time to go deer hunting.
11/10/11 Pigs are getting close to the 200lb mark. When the temps get cold enough it will be time to send them to freezer camp. My neighbor is going to show us how to scald, scrape, and cut the old fashioned way. We'll start with the male and see how it goes.
